BEF infantry

British infantry of the BEF sent out to France  in 1939 consisted of a mix of regulars and territorial battalions. The equipment of early war British infantry differed from the later war period , the familiar British entrenching tool  pack had not been issued at this time and  the helmet netting of the later period was also absent . Armed with Rifles and the new Bren gun the British Tommy lacked the battle experience of the Germans who had learnt valuable lessons from the Polish campaign.

For further campaign information I recommend that you read Hugh  Sebag-Montefiore's book ," Fight To The Last Man ".
